On Sunday, Matt Hasson and I went to the last showing of the Brattle Theater's Bugs Bunny Festival for 2002. An excellent way to remember Chuck Jones, even though the prints were scratchy--the program was nearly all-Jones (there was one Freleng Tweety), with a good mix of the obvious (What's Opera, Doc?, Duck Amuck) and the less overexposed (Rabbit Hood, Water Water Everyhare). The crowd didn't seem to be dominated by Jones fans in mourning--his name got only scatterings of polite applause when it first appeared, as it always would--but by folks looking to be entertained by some great cartoons. And that's not such a bad thing.
